A short intro to my first drift strategy..

Hi, i'm Tyler and this is my blog for my first drift. Please take a look at my work and listen to the recordings. Also, my corresponding google map to track my route can be seen by clicking here. The red line is my first drift. The strategy I intended to use on my drift was originally right-left-right-left. However, after 2 hours or so I started to see things that interested me and just went to those locations. Even though I was supposed to follow the pattern for longer, I think my sounds came out decent and everything worked out fine. Thanks for viewing my drift blog and don't forget to tell your friends!!

First sound recording: "bird chimes"

This first recording was originally intended to record the wind chimes on the deck of a nearby house. The irony of the situation was, wind is bad for mics, but the wind chime wouldn't create sound without the wind. Luckily, birds are making some weird noises nearby, and the wind picked up enough not to disturb the recording, but make some sound from the wind chime.

Second sound recording: "icy crackling"

This recording happens to be my favorite of all recordings made on this drift. While walking I walked over some ice and it crackled. So, for this recording I held the mics down by the ice while slowly sliding my feet over the ice and making it crackle. I especially like this sound because in my opinion it sounds like a fire crackle as well.

Third sound recording: "shoveling"

While trodding along listening for something to capture, I saw a young man carrying a shovel. As I watched he proceeded to shovel out his van, which was stuck at the time. So, I recorded his sounds from across the street. He looked at me a few times, but let me be, and I managed to get an intriguing sound. If one did not know this was a shovel and ice, I think the sound would be hard to distinguish. If not interesting, I think this recording is at least refreshing in an urban environment.

Fourth sound recording: "power"

This was an interesting sound to me as I walked by simply because I had never heard it in a recorded format before. I am sure everyone has heard it at one time or another; the buzz from a power box. However this recording I felt was interesting because of the construction ambiance in the background. I feel the steady hum from the power box gives this recording something unusual; without it, the recording wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary.

Fifth sound recording: "watery construction"

This recording, done on the corner of North Ave and Wyoming, is a unique one in my opinion. When I stopped to record this I hadn't even realized there was water dripping off the house behind me. The combination of construction as the main topic of sound, with the water in the background, is not a sound one would expect at first thought. The beginning of this recording may surprise, but after the initial sound, the recording balances nicely.
